Farewell Jack and Bear, Tim Corcoran

Hello Headwaters Family-

We have some sad news to share with you, but feel it’s important that you know. Some of you already know that Tim’s dad, Jack, passed away a few weeks ago. (1/17/10) He had a stroke and passed away 5 days later. Tim was able to be with him when he passed, and held him and helped him Journey to where he was heading. Knowing someone is going to pass and experiencing someone passing are two very different places to be, and Tim is struggling a bit with his loss.

Life changing and enriching experience, Kevin Callahan

Over the years I’ve attempted to write this testimonial more times
than I can count; each attempt soon abandoned. The immensity and
complexity of what I have gained through Headwaters is difficult to put
into words.

Part of it is that my experiences there are so incredibly personal, so
sacred and dear to me. Part of it is that they are deeply nuanced and
span many realms from the simple roaring laughter at jokes around a
campfire to the deepest sanctity of the sweat lodge. They include
mysteries that do not live in words spoken, but rather in the sounds

HEADWATERS 2009 NEWSLETTER

Our family has been growing. Our classes were filled with amazing people from all walks of life. We have been hearing since they have left the school that they are going out into their part of the world and making a positive difference in their communities. It’s been a very rewarding year meeting such great people who actually go out and apply what they have learned/experienced here. A teacher couldn’t ask for more.

Headwaters Is Family, Julie Boettler

It may sound cliche to say the people you meet become your family, but I can honestly say this has been a truth. The staff and students of Headwaters have made a significant impact on my life. People of all ages and backgrounds attain a sense of belonging and the social boundaries between us and them fade very quickly.

Headwaters Teaches Compassion, Paul Dirks

There was a time when I thought that what made me as a person was my job, my possessions, and my financial success. To be the best mechanical engineer, to own the best boats, and to make tons of money. Then I started to spend time outdoors; no not just "camping" when I was a Boy Scout, hiking around a lot, or going on major backpacking trips. I mean really spend time "being" outdoors.

Headwaters brings me home, Leslie Dawe

Headwaters Outdoor School brings me home to a place of wholeness, health, and peace. When I first ventured up to Mt. Shasta for the Earth Philosophy class, I came not knowing a soul and I left as one of the family. That class opened parts of me I had forgotten existed. Beautiful, ugly, real.

Hooked on Headwaters, Nancy Boxer

I love Tim's classes. I took his weekend Native Plant Class and immediately signed up for the Bow & Arrow Making Workshop. My son Scott came along and he was hooked. We joined the 8 day Nature Awareness Class and Scott went on for Wilderness Skills the same summer. This year we are planning to do more.

Best Trip Ever, Brad Niven

I have to tell you that I had the best trip I have ever taken with Nature Awareness. I have traveled all over the world, and this trip affected me more than any other, and far more than I had expected. I went in with an open mind, hoping to learn and find a spiritual connection to the world that has been missing in my life. I came away with so much more.
